Weeds Season 4 Starts Tonight!

For those of you who haven't seen it, the protagonist reminds me a little of the mother from Gilmore Girls, if that mother was a slutty but well-meaning drug dealer in suburbia. She looks similar, and has the same gift for making the show's witty back-and-forth seem natural and spontaneous. The characters are outrageous, quirky, and all-too-human, and without taking itself too seriously, the show actually manages to emotionally invest you in them pretty well. Quality TV. Also, MILF-weed features prominently.

Tonight on Showtime @ 10

Unitarian Universalist LOLcats = LOL UUs

If you are or have ever met a Unitarian Universalist, and you've been to icanhascheezburger.com (And I'm expecting that these two groups correlate pretty well), you need to check out LOL UUs. I'm a little skeptical about how many LOL's this site can produce until it runs out of ideas, but I'm enjoying it in the meantime.

Hilarious WWDC predictions

Josh T: "Hillary Clinton named president... of AppleCare division. Finally, Universal AppleCare."

Ryan: "Apple announces acquisition of Sharper Image's remaining assets; rebadges flagship product line iOnic Breeze."

Thomas: "iPods, iMacs renamed EeePods and EeeMacs; iPhone launched which is somehow both bigger and smaller than the current model."

Chris: "iPhone Capsule is introduced to thunderous applause, allowing consumers to effortlessly go 'back in time' to retrieve their obsoleted iPhone models."

Josh F: "In a surprise move, Steve Jobs says 'But wait: There's more!' instead of his signature 'Just one more thing,' then proceeds to throw in a Shamwow and two Infinity Razors if you order in the next 30 minutes."

Paul: "Jobs in a white wife-beater tucked into Levi's 501 cutoffs."

Black Enka Singer Jero Takes Japan by Storm

The American-born Jero learned Japanese, and developed his love of Enka, from his Japanese-speaking grandmother while growing up in Pittsburgh. If you're not familiar with Enka, it's a syrupy, occasionally ululating over-the-top genre of Japanese love ballad, usually sung by an over 50-year old- basically, the opposite of cool. Jero takes the antiquated music, adds a beat and some real cheesy, out-of-place hip-hop moves, and sweeps over Japan. Funky. In all honesty, though, besides the ridiculous clothing and backup dancers, the guy's got an amazing voice, and it's great to see another foreigner succeed in a very traditional area of a traditionally xenophobic culture.

Original Japan Probe post on Jero.
Washington Post article covering the story.

Awsome tale of a real New York fight club.

"No settling scores, just fighting for the fun of fighting. No experience or discernible skill required." And I Am Not Lying reports on a spontaneous, public, police-tolerated outdoor fight club in New York's Union Square.

Ridiculous, but enthralling. I can see myself wanting to put myself in a ring and see how I do against a total stranger.
